Calling all budding fashion designers:

Take part in Harrogate's 'A Celebration of Fashion' and you could Win a £250 Harrogate Gift Card!

Harrogate BID Fashion Show

As part of Harrogate’s ‘A Celebration of Fashion’, the Harrogate BID are hosting a pop-up Harrogate Fashion Show on Saturday 20th May 2023. The show is a celebration of the town’s wonderful retail sector with a unique pop-up catwalk that will showcase the best of what Harrogate has to offer.

The team at Enchantica’s are delighted to be part of this Harrogate Fashion Celebration. Suzanne Vaughan at Enchantica’s said:

“Fashion is a wonderful invitation into creative self-expression and it really does encourage us to be our truest most authentic selves. The community is at the heart of all the work that we do and we focus on providing opportunities that allow everyone to be their best, truest selves and to shine bright!… And what a wonderful opportunity this is to do just that!

We are working closely with local businesses and schools to collectively inspire and spark creativity, encourage self expression and celebrate all the wonderful fashion that Harrogate has to offer.”

Take Part:

The Harrogate BID are giving local budding fashion designers of all ages the opportunity to take part and show off their amazing design and creative skills!

Simply design a fabulous outfit in one of two categories: Sustainable Fashion or Express Yourself, and you could be strutting your stuff on the catwalk or showcasing your design at the show!

Individual and group entries welcome.

Finalists will be invited to take part in the show and one lucky winner will receive a Harrogate Gift Card worth £250!

The Categories:

You can choose from one of two categories: 

1. Sustainable Fashion:

Whether you’re transforming old clothes or creating new ones out of recycled materials, we want you to design a killer outfit that says ‘I’m re-used and proud’! Up-cycle old socks and turn them into a skirt, make a hat from an old lampshade, create a suit from items in your recycling bin (after you’ve washed them first!) – anything goes! 

As long as the main materials of your outfit are old and not new, you can enter it for a chance to show it off to all of Harrogate!

2. Express Yourself:

Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak. Be your own true self through fashion by designing a outfit which says ‘This is me!’. Your creation should reflect your personality, passion or dreams, using colour, style and materials to show yourself to the world without words.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

How to enter:

1.  Simply draw your design, or better still, make it.

2. Send us a photo of your drawing or you modelling your outfit via the form below by downloading this entry form and emailing it to us. Don’t forget to tell the judges the inspiration for your design in 100 words or less. All ages are welcome to enter! Please state your age on the form.

3. It’s then over to our judges! Finalists will be invited to take part on the main fashion show stage if they wish to do so!

Meet the judges:

We’re delighted to be joined by local fashion gurus from Morgan Clare, Porters and Artizan International in Harrogate. They’ll be our competition judges, picking the finalists and also the winner on the day.

Katie Bateman from Morgan Clare said:

“We are excited to be involved with and support local fashion enthusiasts in Harrogate’s upcoming Celebration of Fashion. Style is the version of ourselves we present to the world, and we encourage the expression of creative individuality through fashion, filled with escapism and true authenticity. Whether used for transformation or self-expression, fashion is both an artform and a powerful tool to showcase perceptions of reality and influences of culture. We look forward to judging a competition filled with local talent and innovative designs.”

Robert Kennedy-Bruyneels from Porters had this to say:

“Porters are looking forward to teaming up with Morgan Clare to judge the fashion competition. Over the last thirty years Porters has seen several of their team go on to work within the fashion industry, two of which went on to be designers for well known brands and others to work within sales for major brands. It’s always great to see new talent coming into the industry and we can’t wait to see the designs. Good luck everyone.”

Susie Hart, Director at Artizan International says:

“Having spent over 20 years in textiles & design, teamed with sustainability and social justice, I’m excited to be part of the panel for this competition, alongside Morgan Clare and Porters ! I’m looking forward to seeing some really imaginative and creative choices in both categories. I really encourage entrants to think about how they can use their unique creative eye to put together outfits that celebrate who they are, incorporating a variety of materials and textures, new and vintage , up-cycled and off-the-peg fashion. Be bold! No-one else sees the world as you do, we’d love to see your own unique vision expressed through your apparel.“

Entry Form:

Competition T&Cs

There is one prize available of a £250 Harrogate Gift Card.

Open to all ages.

Entries may be from an individual or a group of two or more people.

Finalists will be selected by our judges and invited to attend the fashion show on 20th May 2023 (optional).

All entries will be on display at the fashion show.

Finalists attending (optional) under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at the show.

The event takes place in the Victoria Shopping Centre piazza area of Harrogate Town Centre.

The winner will be chosen from all finalists.

Only one entry per person/email address.

The closing date for entries is 11:59pm on Monday 15th May 2023.

The judges’ decision is final.

The finalists will be notified via email by 17th May 2023. 

The winner will be notified by Monday 22nd May 2023. 

The prize is non-transferrable.  

The winner’s name and entry will be available on request.
